According to Taiwanese media reports, TSMC founder Zhang Zhongmou publicly stated yesterday that Taiwan’s semiconductor manufacturing industry is still quite competitive in the future. As for the US to promote localized manufacturing of the semiconductor industry, it is impossible to succeed.

The US semiconductor manufacturing industry reached a peak of 42% in the world at the end of the 1990s, and has since declined, and now only accounts for 17% of the share. The United States wants to promote more American manufacturing, but Zhang Zhongmou believes that the United States can no longer return to the past. Even if you invest 100 billion US dollars to rebuild the semiconductor supply chain in the United States, you will still find that the cost is too high and lacks competitiveness.

It is worth mentioning that TSMC is one of the biggest supporters of the localization of semiconductor manufacturing in the United States, although it is driven by political factors. TSMC’s investment in building factories in the United States is second only to Taiwan, China.

Zhang Zhongmou said that now that Taiwanese manage overseas factories, it is difficult for the US to manage overseas institutions in the past. Therefore, it is impossible for a Taiwanese administrator to manage as well as Intel in Arizona.

Zhang Zhongmou emphasized that TSMC must continue to operate in Taiwan. This is the only option.

It is reported that the US government recently required chip giants such as TSMC to hand over confidential data. If not, it will take more measures. This matter has caused an uproar. There is currently no definite news about whether TSMC will obey US orders.
