Nokia announced that Puntone, one of the five major Internet service providers in Ecuador, will deploy its software definition and XGS-PON optical fiber solution to help meet the growing demand of end users for high-speed Internet services. This deployment will increase Puntonit’s competitive advantage, enhance the reliability, flexibility, and scale of its fiber optic network to better support ever-changing customer needs.

By using Nokia’s next-generation fiber optic technology, Puntonit can quickly expand its existing services and provide new 10Gbps broadband speeds for residential and commercial customers. This solution will help Puntonit improve the capacity, latency, and stability of its fiber optic network to support use cases such as 4K/8K video streaming, competitive gaming, and enterprise critical business applications. In addition, Puntonit will deploy Nokia’s network automation software, Nokia Altiplano Access Controller, to help simplify operations and reduce costs. The Yunyuan platform provides a complete set of network management and SDN control functions, enabling Puntonet to better visualize, automate, and optimize broadband access services.

Puntonit also successfully tested 25G PON using Nokia’s fiber optic solution, demonstrating the flexibility and scalability of the network, which can seamlessly transition from today’s XGS-PON to future 25G PON using the same access nodes and fiber optic cables. The 25G test demonstrates Puntonet’s commitment to continuously enhancing its fiber optic network, marking an important step towards expanding future ultra wideband services. Nokia is the only supplier that supports all next-generation PON options, including 10G, 25G, 50G, and future 100G PON technologies.

Katherine Mi ñ o, CEO of Ecuador, said, “We are a pioneer in Ecuador and have successfully conducted the first test of 25GPON technology. This innovation sets new industry standards, enabling us to provide powerful, future oriented infrastructure and improve connectivity levels. It improves the quality of service for everyone and ensures that infrastructure is ready to support the country’s growth in the coming years. Through Nokia, we are committed to advancing connectivity in remote areas and striving to minimize Ecuador’s digital divide.”

Javier Falcón, Head of Network Infrastructure for Nokia Latin America, said, “This marks a big step forward, driving Puntonit into the gigabit era and making them a leader in fiber optic networks in Latin America. We are very grateful for their trust in Nokia and look forward to more exciting collaborations in the future.”
