The R&D center will create multiple highly skilled jobs, focusing on advanced software development to support mobile networks. The center will oversee the entire cycle of embedded and real-time software development from early analysis to final delivery. It will bring together professionals from different technical disciplines, including software engineers, product owners and technical leaders, to work with teams around the world.

Tommi Uitto, President of Nokia Mobile Network, said: “The new R&D center in Portugal shows Nokia’s continued investment in wireless communications in the future. The important work of the center will continue to expand the possibility of mobile networks, which is crucial for seamlessly connecting individuals, enterprises and industries. What is important is that it will be an innovation center, strengthening our 5G technology leadership and helping us achieve our ambition of becoming a 6G pioneer.”

Sergio Catalao, the country manager of Nokia Portugal, said: “Today’s announcement is a proof of Nokia’s continuous and stable operation in the country, which once again strengthens the cooperation with the Portuguese government. The project strengthens our commitment to support Portugal’s digital transformation with our market leading technology through close cooperation with the academic community, and support our team with the best talents.”

The dynamic technology ecosystem, the reserve of highly skilled talents, the stability of the country and the geographical location of Europe are all the reasons why Nokia has set up its R&D center in Portugal. Through its subsidiaries in Amadora and Aveiro, the company has been an important innovation center of Nokia in the world, and has provided service centers for leading global operators to remotely manage broadband networks. After signing a strategic agreement with the Portuguese government last year, the Center established a global business service center and participated in the initiative to promote digital skills. The company has nearly 2800 employees in India.
