At the Huawei Connect Conference 2024 Paris Station, Huawei and its major partners showcased how the Huawei TECH4ALL initiative can further assist Europe in achieving green and digital transformation.
At the TECH4ALL forum held on the first day of the conference, guests introduced multiple existing and newly launched TECH4ALL projects and showcased their value in promoting sustainable development, benefiting humanity, and protecting the earth.
Huawei ICT Marketing President Zhou Jun said, “We believe that technology and cooperation are crucial for achieving green and digital transformation, and building an equal and sustainable digital world. Based on this concept, we launched the TECH4ALL initiative in 2019, and its scale and impact are continuing to expand.”
At this event, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) introduced its Tech4Nature global collaboration project launched with Huawei in 2020, which aims to expand natural conservation achievements through technological innovation. Tech4Nature, in line with Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative and the IUCN Green List vision, has supported 11 flagship projects in eight countries, effectively addressing the challenges faced by nature conservation by providing customized solutions.
“Tech4Nature is a global project jointly carried out by representatives of the IUCN and Huawei in the fields of nature conservation and technology. Our cooperation is crucial because solving the climate and biodiversity crises facing the Earth requires the support of technology, and Tech4Nature is committed to exploring innovation and power in the field of technology to help solve these challenges, “said James Hardcastle, IUCN’s Global Head of Nature Reserves.
The Tech4Nature Phase II project is set to launch in 2024, with plans to carry out new projects in five countries, including the biodiversity monitoring and conservation project in the Sierra Nevada region of Spain, which was launched last week.
Greek startup PROBOTEK introduced a new forest fire prevention and response system developed under the TECH4ALL initiative. With the support of the Greek government, PROBOTEK has jointly developed this solution with the University of Athens and Huawei, and announced in October 2024 that it will conduct a second phase pilot on Skiathos Island. This solution consists of sensors, 5G networks, AI, and drones, which can initiate emergency response within the “golden 15 minutes” after detecting forest fires, send evacuation routes to residents’ mobile phones, and plan routes for fire trucks and ambulances, thereby reducing the serious damage that fires may cause.
In the field of education, UNESCO and Huawei TECH4ALL have jointly launched the Open School initiative and Campus UNESCO project. At the TECH4ALL forum, UNESCO presented its strategy to promote global education equity and quality.
Magdalena Landry, Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, said, “The STEM strategy pursued by UNESCO is to drive member states to increase their investment in STEM education by building a strong ecosystem that supports critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation development. The strategy includes a series of measures, such as increasing the participation of young people in STEM fields, enhancing teacher capacity, and promoting gender equality and inclusivity.”
TECH4ALL partners Close the Gap and Konexio introduced the French DigiTruck project, which promotes digital inclusion by providing digital skills training for priority target groups such as the elderly and unemployed youth. So far, the project has covered over 6000 people in 31 cities. At the DigitALL event held that evening, two partners were awarded prizes in recognition of their contributions to promoting digital inclusion and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Under the TECH4ALL initiative, Huawei collaborates with numerous partners including governments, non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, operators, environmental organizations, universities, and technology companies. Given the crucial role of technology in promoting inclusivity and sustainable development, Huawei expects to carry out more such projects with more partners in Europe in the future.
