Huawei made a fierce public defense against the criticism of the UK. The British authorities are currently under constant pressure to withdraw their decision to allow Huawei to provide 5G equipment to British operators.

At a media conference call, Huawei Global Vice President Victor Zhang stated that Huawei hopes to correct misinformation, including issues surrounding its ownership, and points out that Huawei is “independent of any government, including the Chinese government”.

He expressed that the UK will continue to adopt an “evidence-based approach” to formulate supply chain policies for operators.

Zhang pointed out that Huawei is a “very transparent company” and it’s necessary to cooperate to reduce the overall network security risk.

He also pointed out that due to the COVID-19, the British government’s goal of improving optical fiber has fallen behind, and it must now be accelerated. The addition of all-fiber and 5G will “help the economic recovery and the industrial revolution.”

In addition to defending his credibility in this call, Huawei also published full-page advertisements in British newspapers, emphasizing its role in the construction of 3G and 4G network operators, and pledged to help achieve the government’s Gigabit broadband goals.

This ad was written as a letter to the public and read: “We have been providing 3G and 4G services to mobile and broadband companies in the UK for nearly 20 years. But now some people question our role in helping the UK lead 5G  Role. We hope you know that, as always, we are committed to providing the best equipment for your network operator so that you can share photos, streaming movies, online parties, etc.”

At the time of Huawei’s public offensive, the British government continued to exert pressure to withdraw the decision to allow operators to deploy Huawei equipment in the non-sensitive part of their 5G network (up to 35%).

Since then, the pressure on the United States to completely ban the supplier for security reasons has not diminished, and many British politicians are also suspected of this matter, asking the government to turn around.

After the United States announced stricter restrictions on Huawei last month, the UK’s National Cyber Security Center began a new review of the supplier.

According to reports, the British authorities are also forming an alliance with nine other countries to concentrate resources on developing 5G equipment, thereby reducing dependence on Chinese technology.
