Ericsson and AXIAN Telecom strengthened their cooperation at the 2023 World Mobile Conference held in Barcelona, Spain. The two companies announced cooperation to modernize AXIAN Telecom’s business in Madagascar, Telma Madagascar’s radio access point network, microwave transmission infrastructure and core network.

 AXIANEricsson’s wireless access point network product portfolio deploys future-oriented 4G and 5G deployment solutions, which will provide faster and more reliable mobile services throughout Madagascar, while reducing network energy consumption and enhancing the 5G ecosystem. Ericsson microwave product portfolio is a key component of Telma Madagascar network modernization. With its market-leading MINI-LINK 6600 series microwave products, Ericsson will provide cost-effective and multi-functional solutions for mobile transmission networks. Modernization also includes the expansion and upgrading of the existing IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), virtual user data integration, virtual billing and virtual intermediary.
The two companies also announced that through the business of AXIAN Telecom in Tigo, Tanzania, 5G will be launched in Tanzania, and the existing 4G network will be modernized and expanded. 5G is currently launched in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Zanzibar, and will be gradually promoted in strategic locations across the country.
Ericsson is currently upgrading the existing 4G network of Tigo Tanzania through RAN products and microwave solutions (MINI-LINK 6000). Using the latest energy-saving products in Ericsson’s 5G radio system product portfolio, Tigo’s network is being expanded and upgraded to increase network capacity and provide fast and reliable connections.
In Madagascar and Tanzania, AXIAN Telecom continued to launch its Data4All strategy to provide consumers and enterprises with the best quality network experience, and is committed to achieving 100% 4G coverage in these two countries in the near future.

Modernization also includes the implementation of Ericsson’s cognitive software portfolio, while expanding the coverage and speed to ensure rapid data access in Madagascar and Tanzania. Ericsson will optimize the network through the application of artificial intelligence technology, assess future network demand through active monitoring and prediction, and meet increasingly critical performance requirements while improving network performance and user experience.
