Tower Semiconductor, a leading foundry for high-value analog semiconductor solutions, and Xanadu, a pioneering quantum computing company, announced an expanded collaboration to jointly develop advanced silicon photonic technologies for fault-tolerant quantum computers based on Tower’s high-capacity silicon photonics platform. This partnership builds upon previous technical achievements, including multiple successful tape-outs to test and optimize Xanadu’s designs on Tower Semiconductor’s manufacturing lines.
Xanadu and Tower have jointly developed a unique production process tailored for Xanadu’s customized material system, providing a platform aligned with manufacturing processes and compatible with architecture for next-generation photonic quantum computing hardware. This customized material system is designed to ensure scalability and performance as system complexity increases, meeting the demands of large-scale quantum information processing.
Xanadu’s founder and CEO, Christian Weedbrook, stated, “Our collaboration with Tower has significantly advanced the development of our hardware from concept to prototype and demonstration systems, laying the foundation for scalable manufacturing. By combining our expertise in architectural breakthroughs, process engineering, and design innovation with Tower’s world-class technology and manufacturing capabilities, we are building the groundwork for truly practical quantum computers.”
Dr. Ed Preisler, Vice President and General Manager of Tower Semiconductor’s RF Division, stated: “Xanadu is advancing one of the most scalable quantum architectures in the industry, and we are delighted to deepen our collaboration to support its mass production. This further demonstrates the broad applicability of our platform across cutting-edge fields such as quantum computing, data centers, telecommunications, and automotive.”
The current collaboration focuses on optimizing the performance of key components through standardized product processes, including ultra-low-loss silicon nitride (SiN) and integrated photodiodes. These projects enable Xanadu to validate its cutting-edge photonic circuit designs on a mature, high-throughput manufacturing platform. Additionally, as the quantum computing industry advances toward commercial-scale systems, this partnership will meet the manufacturing demands for large-scale photonic quantum computing.
