In response to increasing data usage, Vodafone’s infrastructure partners and Ciena have launched Vodafone’s Data Center Connection (DCC) to provide wholesale and commercial customers with a reliable and secure fiber optic network for high-capacity transmission of voice, data and video.

Vodafone Data Center Connection provides a nationwide structure that directly connects data centers to each other and provides point-to-point connections between data centers in New Zealand and the public cloud.

Based on the new Colourless-Directionless-Contentionless (CDC) and flexible mesh optical multiplexer, the network platform provides the highest degree of agility and flexibility, and can dynamically send any service anywhere in the network.

DCC service is designed as a competitive and simple business structure, encapsulated in an end-to-end product.

This deployment will enable Vodafone’s infrastructure partners to provide their wholesale customers with ultra-high data transmission capabilities, including 100G, 200G, and 400G wavelength services, based on the industry’s leading optical supplier Ciena’s strong technical architecture and technology.

Murray Osborne, head of Vodafone’s infrastructure partners, said: “Having secure, reliable, and high-performance connection services is essential for large data centers, and Vodafone Data Center Connect is a game changer in New Zealand. We designed it with built-in redundancy, solutions to ensure network availability and reduce the risk of failures on critical data paths. Using Ciena’s global expertise, the design of Vodafone Data Center Connect puts security and reliability in the first place. We know that the time of service activation is important to the ‘VIP’, so we pre-installed the node to get customers up and running faster.”
