Not long ago, Japan and the Netherlands have reached an agreement with the United States to begin restricting the export of advanced process chip manufacturing equipment to China, which not only affects the United States, Japan and the Netherlands, but also indirectly affects other countries, including Germany. German media Youth World said that this directly affected Carl Zeiss AG and TRUMPF, two German companies.
ZEISS provides high-tech mirrors for ASML lithography machines, while Chuangpu provides laser technology. The total value of equipment provided by ZEISS and Chuangpu accounts for about 2/5 of the added value of ASML EUV lithography machine. Of ZEISS’s annual turnover (7.5 billion euros), 2.3 billion euros came from the semiconductor business. The price of an EUV machine is about US $160 million, and the price of a DUV lithography machine is US $80 million.
According to the news, if the future sales of ASML will decrease due to the contraction of its business in China, ZEISS and Chuangpu will also be affected. In addition, Infineon is the largest semiconductor manufacturer in Germany, with its Chinese business accounting for 38% of its sales, and the manufacturer may be affected by the sanctions imposed by the US chip industry.
According to the previous news, “chip war” also affects other countries, such as Germany and the Netherlands and other EU countries. German companies, such as Fus, BASF and BOSCH, have invested heavily in China.
Not long ago, German silicon wafer manufacturer Siltronic said that at present, customers’ demand for its silicon wafer is still strong, but the slowdown in the terminal market may drag down the performance in 2023.
