On the morning of February 6, U.S. Attorney General William Barr delivered a speech at the Strategic and International Research Center (CSIS) conference in Washington, U.S.A., proposing “alliance” with Nokia and Ericsson to compete with Huawei in the next generation of 5G wireless  Dominance in technology.

Ms. Barr made it clear that as an important basic industry, China has already led the world in 5G technology. This is also the first time in history that the United States has failed to lead the next era of technology. China has become the United States’ primary geopolitical opponent. China has almost covered 40% of the world’s telecommunications infrastructure market. Nokia’s Finnish and Sweden’s Ericsson have market shares of 17% and 14% respectively. The United States does not have a single equipment supplier.

According to United Market Research, the global 5G market is rapidly expanding at an average rate of about 96% per year. Therefore, the 5G infrastructure market is expected to reach a market size of $ 58.2 billion by 2025. Barr emphasized that the time in the United States is very urgent. The next five years will be the formation stage of the 5G technology pattern. The United States must use investment holding to form alliances with Finland and Sweden to face unusually powerful competitors. Earlier, the US government’s investment in listed companies was extremely rare, and there were cases of helping each other to rescue companies on the verge of bankruptcy, but investment in foreign companies was extremely rare.

Nokia and Ericsson did not immediately respond to Barr’s speech, but after Barr’s comments, the stock prices of both companies rose slightly.
