According to Patently apple, TSMC has recently begun to prepare for trial production of 2nm products for Apple and Nvidia. According to the report, Samsung Electronics began mass production of 3-nanometer chips through the Ring Gate process in June 2022, six months ahead of TSMC, ranking first in the world. Affected by Samsung’s preemptive strike, TSMC executives have repeatedly disclosed their 2 nanometer process plan, sparking a competition for ultra precision manufacturing.
Intel also joined the competition, and set a goal of promoting its Original equipment manufacturer of chips within the 1.8nm process in the second half of 2024. In March, the company developed a plan to achieve a 1.8 nanometer process through a partnership with ARM. However, some industry insiders are pessimistic that even if Intel succeeds according to the roadmap, achieving breakeven will still be a great challenge for the company.
It is reported that TSMC plans to build the world’s most cutting-edge 2-nanometer chip factory in Zhuke, and plans to start mass production in 2025. TSMC’s 2-nanometer technology has a speed of 10-15% faster than the 3-nanometer process at the same power consumption; At the same speed, the power consumption is reduced by 25-30%.
