Our country’s network coverage targets in poverty-stricken areas have been over-fulfilled ahead of schedule, and the proportion of optical fiber in poor villages has increased from less than 70% before the implementation of universal telecommunications services to 98% now.

E-commerce enters the countryside to achieve full coverage of 832 impoverished counties. The national rural online retail sales increased from 180 billion yuan in 2014 to 1.7 trillion yuan in 2019, an increase of 8.4 times.

The network intelligence support project has achieved remarkable results. The Internet access rate of primary and secondary schools (including teaching points) nationwide has increased from 79.2% at the end of 2016 to 98.7% in August 2020.

The network poverty alleviation information service system was basically established, telemedicine realized full coverage of national hospitals in poverty-stricken counties and county-level hospitals, and the basic financial service coverage rate of administrative villages nationwide reached 99.2%

On November 6, at a press conference on the implementation of the Internet Poverty Alleviation Initiative of the State Information Office, Yang Xiaowei, deputy director of the Central Cyberspace Administration of China and deputy director of the National Cyberspace Administration of China, listed the online poverty alleviation transcript one by one.

Shen Zhulin, Director of the Innovation and High-Tech Development Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, gave an example on the spot: In Fengjie, Chongqing, some leading local navel orange growers have cooperated with e-commerce to promote digital technology and standardized planting, including the introduction of precision fertilization, drip irrigation and other technologies. The stability of product quality is greatly improved, and the output value per mu can be increased by about 2,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan. Last year’s sales season, the online sales of local navel oranges reached more than 500 million yuan, driving farmers’ income by more than 60 million yuan.

2020 is a year of decisive victory in the fight against poverty, and online poverty alleviation actions are an important part of winning the fight against poverty. The Internet is showing its talents in driving poverty-stricken areas out of poverty and getting rich together.
