At the sixth plenary meeting of the International Telecommunication Union Standardization Bureau (ITU-TSG5) held from May 11 to 20, 2020, The project proposal of 10kV high voltage input up to 400VDC output power feeding system in data center and telecommunication room proposed by Alibaba Cloud and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology was successfully approved, marking that China’s self-developed ultra-large-scale IDC power supply and distribution solution has been recognized by international peers.
During the conference, the participating experts conducted in-depth discussions on the purpose of standard compilation, research content, relationship with existing standards, and standardization feasibility. After multiple rounds of deliberation by participating experts, the standard project was successfully passed at this plenary meeting. In the later period, the standard will propose technologies from multiple perspectives such as various input and output performance indicators, safety, energy efficiency, environmental impact, monitoring performance and test methods for power supply systems with 10kV AC input and 240V output (up to 400V) DC output. This standard will be promoted simultaneously with the communication industry standard Uninterruptible Power System with 10kV AC Input for Information and Communication proposed by Alibaba Cloud, and strive for my country’s right to speak in international standards in the data center and communication energy domain.
The opening of the Panama Canal in 1914 shortened the 14,000-kilometer voyage between the east and west coasts of the United States and greatly improved shipping efficiency. Panama Power (10kV AC input DC uninterruptible power supply system) is an integrated DC uninterruptible power supply module developed by Alibaba Cloud, Delta Electronics and Zhongheng Electric within three years. It achieves AC 10kV direct conversion to 240VDC, which greatly reduces distribution path. Compared with the traditional “2N-UPS” or “2N-HVDC” solution, the TCO is reduced by more than 4%; at the same time, the construction and testing time can be reduced by more than 3 months; the power distribution room space is reduced by more than 30%. Up to now, more than 60 sets have been deployed and operated safely for more than 2 years.
In the future, Alibaba Cloud will continue to invest in the research and development of the “next-generation data center”, and continue to contribute proven and mature innovative technologies and architecture to the industry to help “new infrastructure”.
