Previously, the U.S. Navy once again completed a laser weapon test, using a laser weapon system demonstrator to lock a drone and finally successfully shot it down. This test was carried out on a military ship, which proves that solid-state laser technology will occupy an important position in the military field in the future, completely subverting the current combat concepts and models of various countries.
Laser weapons are weapons and equipment that the United States, China, Russia and other military powers are now focusing on research and development. In the future, this weapon will play an important role in the fields of short-range anti-missile and anti-satellite. At this stage, laser weapons can only be counted as a blinding weapon, because it has not solved the small-sized, high-energy energy gathering technology, and the laser beam emitted is low in power, not enough to cause too much threat, and the weapon is extremely susceptible to atmospheric disturbances.
In order to achieve the desired destructive effect, it is necessary to overcome the high-power and high-quality beam technology. Only by increasing the beam power from the current 50 kW to 500 kW or even 1000 kW can the laser weapon emit high-frequency lasers and cause the electronic components to overload. In addition, high-efficiency power supply and cooling technology are also particularly important. Because the current solid-state laser has only reached about 30% of the power utilization rate, in other words, to achieve the blinding effect, a 50-kilowatt laser weapon must be adapted to a power supply of 150-kilowatt or more, and if the beam power is increased, there must be higher power supply support. In addition, atmospheric disturbances and some special weather conditions may cause strong divergence and distortion of the laser beam.
The United States now wants to develop a laser weapon with a simple structure, small size, and low price, and install it on a destroyer or frigate. If it can be matched with the aiming launch system, it can have precision strike capability and burn missiles launched from any direction when the ship is unstable and cannot be seen.
In theory, as long as the power of a laser weapon is large enough, the laser beam it emits can burn through the aircraft carrier thousands of miles away. However, in actual combat, this idea still has great limitations. The launching power of laser weapons installed on ships is not even as powerful as traditional anti-ship missiles. It is worth mentioning that in the aerospace field, laser weapons are of great strategic value. As long as they have enough power, laser beams can directly burn low-Earth orbit satellites and are more powerful than nuclear weapons. In response to this issue, the United Nations urgently voiced that laser weapons must be destroyed, so that they cannot be used in future wars.
