Beijing time April 23, 2019 – Acacia Communications (Nasdaq: ACIA), a leading supplier of high-speed coherent optical interconnect products, today announced that Tencent has adopted its own OPC-4 open line system (Open Line) System, OLS), using Acacia’s CFP2-DCO module on a third-party switch platform, completed 80 km of fiber transmission of multiple 200G 8QAM signals. In order to simulate the higher fiber loss in the metro network, this test added an additional 10 dB optical attenuator to the test link and still achieved error-free operation on all ports. The OCP-4 developed by Tencent complies with Tencent’s SDN requirements for decoupling transmission networks and has been fully integrated into Tencent’s network controllers. The lab test proved that Tencent deployed its IP over DWDM (Deep Wavelength Division Multiplexing-Based Network Protocol, IPoDWDM) solution in the metro DCI network using OCP-4.
The test was carried out using Acacia’s CFP2-DCO module. With 50 GHz channel spacing and 200G 8QAM modulation, the module solves the challenging fiber loss problem in Tencent’s metro DCI applications. The trial also demonstrated the use of Tencent’s 96-channel OCP-4 and Acacia’s CFP2-DCO module to support up to 19.2T of transmission capacity on a single fiber. This trial highlights the value of IP over DWDM and optical transport SDN decoupling solutions in the face of the growing bandwidth requirements of metro DCI networks.

The module is configured and accesses the module’s advanced performance monitoring capabilities. With Acacia’s 200G CFP2-DCO module, our switch platform can support 1.6T/board card switching capacity, while our OPC-4 can support the metro via a single fiber DCI applications use up to 19.2T of data transmission. In addition, the flexible pluggable features of the CFP2-DCO optical module meet our on-demand deployment model.”

Acacia’s optical modules are compliant with the OIF CFP2-DCO protocol, which also supports next-generation 400G solutions, further increasing board density and fiber capacity. Acacia’s CFP2-DCO module is based on its Meru DSP ASIC chip and has been in production since December 2017.
