According to Taiwanese media statistics, as of now, the three major operators in Taiwan have supported 111 new startups by building a 5G ecosystem. Among them, 4 were supported by Chunghwa Telecom, 37 were supported by Far Eastern Telecom, and 20 were supported by Taiwan University.
Chunghwa Telecom stated that it attaches great importance to investing in new startups, prioritizing smart home businesses in the personal market, and expanding its operations and investments in potential emerging fields such as film and television, gaming, and sports. The enterprise market focuses on three major areas: cloud computing, network security, and the Internet of Things, each with a revenue target of NT $10 billion. For industrial partners, Chunghwa Telecom does not rule out investment or mergers and acquisitions.
It is reported that Chunghwa Telecom’s investment in startups began in 2018 with the construction of the “5G Accelerator”.
Since the establishment of Far Eastern Telecom Accelerator 2 years ago, it has supported 37 new startups, including some investment from its own funds and guiding industry funds to participate in investment. Jingqi, the general manager of Far Eastern Telecom, also serves as a guidance consultant on the front line.
National Taiwan Universiy started relatively late, and in order to expand its “super 5G” ecosystem, it has invested heavily in new startups in the past two years, focusing on entertainment, film and television, sharing economy, and other fields. It has also launched multiple investment mergers and acquisitions with its own funds.
