In 2020, 5G is in full swing in the world, and now the 5G standard has been frozen in technology, and the industry will be the first to develop the next generation of 6G technology in the future. Samsung today released the 6G white paper “Next-Generation Hyperconnected Experience”, pointing out that 6G commercial use will have a peak rate of 1000Gbps in 2030 and a latency as low as 100us.

The major powers in the world have already launched pre-research on 6G. Samsung established the Advanced Communication Research Center as early as May last year and began to prepare for 6G. The white paper “Next-Generation Hyperconnected Experience” now released introduces 6G on 6G technology and social trends, new services, new needs, candidate technologies and expected timetables.

Samsung believes that 6G networks will complete standardization in 2028 and begin early commercialization, but it is 2030 that is the beginning of 6G’s truly large-scale commercialization .

Samsung said that in the 6G era, humans and machines are the main users of 6G networks. The latter will provide more advanced services, including true immersive extended reality XR, high-fidelity mobile holographic images, digital replication, and so on.

Samsung said that the improvement of 5G is mainly in terms of performance, and 6G must meet three requirements-performance, architecture and reliability. 6G network speed can reach 1000Gbps, and latency is less than 100us (that is, 0.1ms). Besides, the speed is 50 times than 5G’s, and the delay is only 1/10 of the latter.

6G will also address the problem of insufficient computing power of mobile devices. From the beginning, AI technology has been widely used to achieve flexible integration of the network. Reliability has solved the security and privacy issues caused by user data and AI technology.

Samsung has also proposed candidate technologies that may be used in the 6G standard, such as the Thz terahertz frequency band, new antenna technology to enhance high-frequency signal coverage, advanced duplex technology, development of network topology and spectrum sharing to improve network utilization and improve the application of AI etc.
