Nokia announced that it is working with other industry-leading technology providers to improve its existing mission-critical industrial advantage (MXIE) capabilities to manage the growing digital demand of the industry. Nokia will also make it possible for more enterprises to realize the value of operational technology (OT) data by introducing MXIE into the HaaS model.

MX Industrial EdgeAs enterprises implement more and more Industry 4.0 use cases, such as autonomous robots in factories or warehouses that use real-time situational awareness to achieve security, or zero-fault manufacturing that uses advanced real-time video analysis to improve efficiency, the demand for large-capacity internal edge processing is growing. To support this, Nokia is introducing a new high-performance and large-capacity infrastructure platform from Dell Technologies, starting with Dell PowerEdge XR11 server, to further improve the processing capacity of MXIE to handle the most demanding and complex workloads.
The new MXIE based on the Dell PowerEdge XR11 server uses the third-generation Intel Xeon scalable processor and introduces physical graphics processing unit (GPU) support. High-performance NVIDIA A2 Tensor Core GPU realizes multi-function AI reasoning acceleration.
For example, this will unlock key business use cases that rely on real-time monitoring of video sources and alerts using applications such as Nokia Scene Analysis or Atos Computer Vision Platform, which use artificial intelligence (AI) for quality assurance and provide video analysis solutions for mission-critical applications.
Future computational-intensive applications, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), will also benefit from the computing power provided by GPU. This includes data intelligence for analyzing real-time OT data at the edge, which will be used to promote advanced analysis. Nokia will continue to conduct technical cooperation with Intel.
By providing MXIE under HaaS mode, Nokia will enable more enterprises to start their digital journey. This will reduce the upfront capital investment and allow them to benefit from MXIE functions on the basis of subscription.
