Nokia announced that it has signed an important new agreement with Viettel to deploy 5G equipment nationwide for the first time in Vietnam. This ambitious project will cover 22 provinces across the country and support Vietnam Electric’s strategy to promote 5G infrastructure and digital transformation. The project will also witness Nokia’s modernization of Vietnam Telecom’s 4G infrastructure. The deployment will begin this year.
According to the agreement, Nokia will provide its industry-leading 5G AirScale product portfolio of devices for the first time in Vietnam, covering 2500 sites. This includes Nokia’s next-generation AirScale baseband solution, massive MIMO radio, and remote radio head products. These are powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark system chip technology, combined with excellent coverage and capacity. This is Vietnam’s first 5G network, and the deployed products are also locally produced, highlighting Nokia’s commitment to the region.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications attaches great importance to 5G, viewing it as a key national infrastructure for achieving sustainable socio-economic development through science, technology, and innovation. By 2030, Vietnam’s digital economy is expected to account for 20% to 30% of GDP.
