According to the data of the Operational Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the cumulative revenue of the communications industry in the first quarter of 2020 was 377.8 billion yuan, a decrease of 2.3% from the same period last year.  Among them, the revenue of telecommunications business increased slightly, accumulatively completed 338.3 billion yuan, an increase of 1.8% year-on-year.

The proportion of fixed communications business revenue continued to increase, and the decline in mobile communications business revenue narrowed. In the first quarter, the three basic telecommunications companies achieved fixed communication business revenue of 115.9 billion yuan, an increase of 9.8% year-on-year, accounting for 34.3% of the telecommunications business revenue, an increase of 2.5 percentage points from the end of the previous year; realizing mobile communication business revenue of 222.4 billion yuan, down 1.9%, a decrease of 1 percentage point from the end of last year, accounting for 65.7% of the telecommunications business revenue.

Data and Internet business revenue grew steadily. In the first quarter, the three basic telecommunications companies completed fixed and mobile data and Internet business revenue of 57.1 billion yuan and 158.4 billion yuan respectively, up 7.3% and 3.8% year-on-year, accounting for 16.9% and 46.8% of the telecommunications business revenue, accounting for the year-on-year increase of 0.9 percentage points which has driven the growth of telecommunications business revenue by 1.2 and 1.7 percentage points, becoming the mainstay of the steady growth of telecommunications business revenue.

The growth of fixed value-added and other revenues accelerated, and continued to inject new vitality into the growth of telecommunications business revenue. Telecommunications companies are actively developing emerging businesses such as Internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc., driving fixed value-added and other business revenues to grow rapidly. In the first quarter, the three basic telecommunications companies completed fixed value-added business revenue of 43.9 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 18.9%, an increase of 2.2 percentage points from January to February, driving telecom business revenue growth of 2.1 percentage points.

Fixed telephone users, mobile phone users, 4G users, and mobile Internet users all declined compared with the end of last year. Broadband access users have increased slightly. Among them, xDSL users decreased by 210,000 year-on-year, FTTH / 0 users increased by 6.58 million from the end of the previous year, and users above 100M rate increased by 4.83 million.

The number of fixed broadband access users has grown steadily, and users continue to move toward high rates. As of the end of March, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 456 million, a year-on-year increase of 7.7%, and a net increase of 6.49 million from the end of the previous year. Among them, fiber access (FTTH / O) users are 424 million, accounting for 93% of the total fixed broadband Internet access users. The fixed Internet broadband access users with 100Mbps and above access rate reached 389 million, accounting for 85.3% of the total number of users, accounting for an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the end of February.
