Míla, Iceland’s largest telecommunications infrastructure company, has cooperated with Ciena to increase the country’s bandwidth capacity and 5G capacity to cope with the surge in national and international network traffic. Míla provides fiber optic access, mobile xHaul, and Layer 2/3 VPN services to wholesale, commercial, and residential customers in Iceland.
Daei Sigurearson, Chief Technology Officer of M í la, stated: “Our digital lifestyle is driving an unprecedented demand for more bandwidth, and networks must address this challenge. Through collaboration with Ciena, we can develop and adapt to future domestic and international bandwidth capacity to support the construction of fiber optic and 5G networks throughout Iceland. This helps ensure that our customers have the speed and performance required for commercial and consumer applications.”Ciena
Daei Sigurearson added: “According to data from the European FTTH Committee, Iceland’s home connection speed is 1Gb/s, and Iceland’s fiber penetration rate ranks first in Europe, reaching 76.8%.”
Virginia Hollebecque, Vice President of Ciena EMEA, said, “Míla attaches great importance to the continuous development of its telecommunications infrastructure. The deployment of Ciena’s innovative optical and IP technologies demonstrates its commitment to providing customers with excellent experiences on high-performance networks, both domestically and internationally, as an important hub for submarine cable connections.”
Utilizing Ciena’s 6500 packet optical platform, WaveLogic Ai coherent technology, 5164 router, Management, Control and Planning (MCP) domain controller, and Ciena services, M í la obtains:
The line speed per wavelength has increased fourfold, from 100Gb/s to 400Gb/s, and there may be even greater capacity in the future.
Quickly move capacity to where it is most needed through flexible photon layers.
Simplified and cost-effective aggregation of TDM, IP, and Ethernet services on a single network.
Greater operational performance and efficiency with an open and easy to manage network.
The use of PinPoint OTDR improves reliability, allows for precise positioning of potential fault points, reduces downtime risk, and accelerates repair time.
Confidence in the success of projects using end-to-end network design, migration, configuration, and testing services.
