According to the official website of Malaysian telecommunications operator U Mobile, the company has recently signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with ZTE and Huawei respectively, to collaborate with two Chinese suppliers to deploy the country’s second 5G network and explore future RAN technology evolution, including 5G Advanced.

According to the relevant press release, with the help of ZTE’s technology and professional knowledge, U Mobile will deploy the most advanced hardware and software to create a high-performance and efficient second 5G network in Malaysia. U Mobile will continue to collaborate with ZTE on various research and development plans beyond 5G, focusing on the development of 5G Advanced, 6G, and future technologies to support the diverse needs of consumers and businesses.

In terms of end-to-end support, U Mobile and ZTE will continue to cooperate in network design, planning, deployment, operation, and optimization of the second 5G network deployment. Given the investment required for 5G deployment, the two companies will jointly evaluate and explore innovative financing solutions to ensure a model that is conducive to rapid technology deployment and cost-effectiveness.

Another press release stated that as part of the collaboration, U Mobile will work with Huawei Malaysia to deploy the latest hardware and software to create an efficient and high-performance second 5G network for Malaysia. In addition, U Mobile will leverage the technical expertise of Huawei Malaysia to deploy future RAN technologies.

U Mobile also expects Huawei Malaysia to share its global expertise and extensive research and development achievements, in order to collaborate on adopting advanced technologies to support market demand, especially for enterprises with ultra-low latency and high bandwidth requirements. In addition, both parties will also explore opportunities for project financing, including options such as supplier financing or deferred payment plans.
