Lumen Technologies has chosen Blue Planet’s intelligent automation software, a subsidiary of Ciena, to help drive its strategic network inventory transformation plan. Blue Planet Inventory (BPI) will enable Lumen to integrate multiple legacy inventory systems, simplify its service delivery and assurance processes, digitize its network assets, and improve global customer experience. Simplifying the visibility of its network inventory through BPI will also help accelerate the development, implementation, and support of Lumen solutions, including Net-as-a-Service and the company’s recently announced Private Connectivity Fabric VNet.
Kyle Prigg, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Operations at Lumen Technologies, said, “Our single source of network inventory and data integrity is at the core of Lumen’s transformation, aimed at creating a digital, AI ready network that can quickly meet customer needs driven by AI driven primary connectivity needs. This work is crucial to our mission of quickly, securely, and easily connecting people, data, and applications, while also driving significant improvements in our overall operational efficiency.”
The deployment of Blue Planet no longer relies on multiple traditional inventory systems that require continuous, expensive, and extensive customization, but instead provides a modern networked inventory solution that enables Lumen to eliminate the negative impact of operational silos and inaccurate inventory data. By digitizing its network assets, Lumen will also be able to create digital twins or digital replicas of its network. This enables the company to run test simulations for network planning, identify potential issues, and drive new use cases, such as automation. BPI will also help Lumen solve downtime issues faster and simplify future data capture.
“Lumen is laying the foundation for a scalable and adaptable digital network, boldly leading the way in providing customers with powerful digital experiences. Blue Planet is helping Lumen leverage its trusted data to control its transformation and provide greater consistency between IT and network operations, “said Joe Cumello, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Blue Planet.
