Quantum technology (QT) is undergoing a transformation from various industries such as healthcare to communications, but its progress relies on the reliability of core components. Recently, international quantum information company Infleqtion and optomechanical and optoelectronic device and equipment developer Thorlabs have reached a new cooperation agreement to commercialize Infleqtion’s highly integrated fiber optic collimation kit.

This fiber optic collimation kit can provide linearly polarized collimated beams with high extinction ratio and collection success rate monitoring. It is a compact, reliable, and more cost-effective solution that meets the strict requirements required for quantum technology applications. Reliable and more cost-effective solutions like this are helping quantum technology prepare for business and increasing its potential for economic impact across a wide range of industries.

The fiber optic collimation device was developed by Infleqtion in the QT Assemble project funded by Innovate UK, as part of a large-scale alliance effort led by the Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) and costing £ 7.3 million, with partners including 13 organizations in the UK, including ColdQuanta UK (now renamed Infleqtion). The goal of QT Assemble is to develop highly innovative quantum technology assemblies in miniaturized packaging, making the widespread application of quantum technology easier.

The core of Infleqtion’s engineering philosophy is the belief that the highest quality components are crucial for producing reliable quantum solutions. The licensing agreement with Thorlabs enables more researchers and product development teams to utilize advanced collimation capabilities, thereby accelerating the development of quantum technology.

Infleqtion UK President Tim Ballance said, “The true potential of quantum technology only becomes apparent when research is transformed into practical products that solve real-world problems. This collaboration is the next step in driving breakthroughs and will bring quantum solutions to the global market faster.”

Thorlabs General Manager Keith Dhese added, “Through QT Assemble, we are delighted to see the UK playing such an important role in deploying compact and powerful technologies in the rapidly developing global quantum field. Thorlabs is pleased to collaborate with quantum technology companies such as Infleqtion to accelerate the commercialization process of these key components, which will drive the progress of next-generation quantum technology. Thorlabs’ high vertical integration in engineering and manufacturing has laid a solid foundation for this type of partnership”.
