On October 8, at the 8th Global Antenna Technology and Industry Forum held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Huawei released the “5G Antenna White Paper”, proposing three important industry trends.

The white paper analyzes the dimensions of 5G network evolution, minimal deployment and AI operation and maintenance to explore the future development trend of the antenna industry, including the basic characteristics and collaborative design requirements of 5G antennas, as well as new value prospects in intelligent operation and maintenance.

Trend One, full-band beamforming is a basic feature of 5G antennas. As the 5G industry chain matures, the MBB network will fully evolve to 5G, which will promote the evolution of 5G in the full frequency band. High-precision beamforming results in better RSRP and SINR. The C-band/TDD 2.6GHz band in 5G antennas already supports high-precision beamforming. The Sub3GHz FDD band can also be considered to support high-precision beamforming in the future.  Better network revenue.

Trend Two, collaborative design is the basic property of 5G antennas. The synergy between RAN and antenna in the 5G network will reach a new height, and the antenna E2E collaborative design will become an important capability of the antenna industry. All frequency bands of 5G network support 5G and support site minimal deployment. The trend of full-band Beamforming, active, and broadband drives the cooperation between RAN and antenna. From the performance synergy of 4G era, it is transformed into three levels of collaboration: components level, product level, and feature level to meet 5G network configuration and performance requirements.

Trend Three, 5G antenna will bring intelligence and simplify the new value of network management. For example, scene-based 3D beam adaptive implementation of network self-optimization, intelligent channel shutdown to achieve power savings, high-precision real-time mMTC terminal positioning to achieve IoT terminal positioning without GPS chips.

Zhang Jiayi, president of Huawei’s Tiankui business unit, said: “5G has opened up a new era of mobile networks and has also driven the antenna to open a new chapter in the industry. Huawei will continue to build an antenna industry cooperation and innovation platform, and continue to help operators rapidly evolve to 5G and help operations. Businesses have achieved commercial success in the new era.”
