At the China Light Summit Forum hosted by ICT China, Lu Yiquan, president of Huawei’s transport network, comprehensively expounded the concept of “all-optical network 2.0”, and promoted optical networks from three dimensions: new speed, new site and new operation.  Evolving and upgrading, accelerating the innovation of new services, and promoting the transformation of optical networks from basic bearer networks to service bearer networks, fully enabling China’s “double G double-lift” strategy.

In 2019, it is the first year of 5G. The commercial deployment of China’s 5G has been fully opened. The fixed broadband field has also entered the F5G era. Operators have also set off a wave of 100M optical access to Gigabit access. As the carrier base for these services, optical networks are also facing enormous challenges. Wei Leping, executive deputy director of the Communication Technology Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and director of the China Telecom Science and Technology Commission, also pointed out that the all-optical network will move from the 1.0 era to the all-optical network 2.0 era. In the keynote speech of “Avenue to Jane, Towards All-optical Network 2.0”, Lu Yiquan elaborated on how to realize the intergenerational evolution of all-optical networks from 1.0 to 2.0.

New Rate-Bandwidth Speedup: With the implementation of the “Double G Double Lifting, Same Network Same Speed” strategy of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Gigabit network construction is accelerating across the country, with the goal of deploying Gigabit broadband networks in more than 300 cities for network user coverage. The capacity is 20 million.  In October 2018, Shanghai took the lead in releasing the first Gigabit city in the world. Shenzhen also announced the completion of the construction of the Gigahwa City. Subsequently, the construction of the Gigabit city was launched nationwide, and the Gigabit broadband connection represented by 10G PON was completed. Technology is the best choice. After years of development, the 10G PON industry chain is very mature, and the best time for scale deployment has arrived.

At the same time, the bandwidth is also reflected in the backbone and aggregation layer. With the acceleration of the access-side service, the backbone aggregation network also evolves from single-wave 100G to single-wave 200G. The 200G is recognized as the mainstream long-distance transmission technology in the world, and is global. Widely used, it is also the best choice for the dual G era.

The new site-architecture is minimal: an important feature of all-optical network 2.0 is all-optical automatic scheduling. By introducing OXC all-optical crossover in the core layer, a Mesh-forming networking structure is formed, and the optical layer service is directly hopped and the delay is optimal.  At the same time, at the aggregation and access layer, the OTN gradually sinks into the integrated service access area, forming a stable all-optical network city anchor point.  By introducing a packet OTN device in the all-optical network city anchor point, the integrated bearer of the Ethernet service, the PDH service, the SDH service, and the OTN service can be realized, and one network is multi-purpose and multiple sub-frames are combined.

New operation dimension – intelligent operation: With the development of network automation technology, optical network will also move towards business automation and operational intelligence.  Huawei introduced edge AI technology and centralized control over SDN to achieve end-to-end management and control of optical networks.  The control system is applied in the field of quality special line, which can improve the customer experience of the leased line and realize the business income increase. The application can be used in the field of operation and maintenance to prevent preventive maintenance through AI modeling and reduce the network failure rate. For network planning and design, through cloud-based wisdom, the brain can achieve reliable resource guarantee, predictable capacity, and have a basis for expansion, and the business can be quickly opened.

New business – high-quality dedicated line: Optical network will gradually move from basic network to business network. In the future, more innovative services based on optical network will emerge. Among them, high-quality OTN government and enterprise private network has become a key to operators. In recent years, operators have made efforts in the government and enterprise private line market. The three major operators have actively carried out the construction of government and enterprises. The provincial companies have also invested heavily. So far, more than 20 provincial branches have opened OTN high-quality government and enterprise. The next-generation optical network forum NGOF has released the “White Paper on High-Quality Special Line Technology for the Cloud Era”, which describes the five-star evaluation system of the OTN government-enterprise line and the OTN high-quality cloud line.

When it comes to the future, Lu Yiquan said that with the growth of the digital economy and the construction of smart cities, more and more emerging business development needs to be supported by highly reliable information city bases. As a new generation information infrastructure, all-optical network 2.0 can fully meet the needs of urban information development and form a stable all-optical network city base. To this end, Huawei has also released the Zhijian all-optical network strategy, which is committed to bringing the ultimate business experience to everyone, every family, and every organization.
