Following the announcement that the core of the Hongmeng system is open sourced, Huawei has once again launched a major move in the field of operating systems.

At the operating system industry summit held today, Wang Tao, executive director of Huawei and director of the ICT infrastructure business management committee, announced that he would donate related assets such as the openEuler system code, brand trademarks, and community infrastructure to the Open Atom Foundation. At the same time, Huawei promised not to make a commercial release.

OpenEuler is a B-side, server-oriented operating system. It was officially released on September 25, 2021. It can be widely deployed in servers, cloud computing, edge computing, and embedded devices. In Huawei’s plan, the goal of the Euler system is to build an innovative platform through community cooperation, build a multi-processor architecture, a unified and open operating system, and promote the prosperity and development of the software and hardware ecosystem.

It is understood that the openEuler community has attracted nearly 10,000 developers, nearly a hundred special interest groups, and 300 companies have joined the community, bringing together processors, complete machines, basic software, application software, industry customers and other industry chain partners. Domestic mainstream operating system manufacturers have launched commercial releases based on Euler, which are used in core systems in the government, operators, finance, energy, power, transportation and other industries. Up to now, Euler’s commercial has exceeded 600,000 sets, and it is expected to achieve the first new market share in China’s server field next year.

“Since the open source of the Euler operating system, it has received positive responses from the industry and has developed into the most dynamic and mainstream basic software ecosystem in China.” said Wang Tao, executive director of Huawei and director of the ICT Infrastructure Business Management Committee, in his speech.

Yang Tao, Chairman of the Open Atom Foundation, said at the donation ceremony: “Euler’s positioning is to target the operating system and ecological base of the national digital infrastructure. The project is open sourced by the Foundation and achieves rapid development, important value, which is also the mission and responsibility given to the Open Atom Foundation. The Foundation will further firmly adopt the open source co-construction model, promote innovative action paths, and gather outstanding enterprises, scientific research institutions and developers for digital transformation and digital transformation. China’s development has consolidated four pillars and eight pillars.”
