On the eve of CIOE 2020, Qingdao Hisense Broadband Multimedia Technology Co., Ltd. takes the lead in achieving a breakthrough in the core technology of a new generation of access network, completing the development and testing of the 50G PON OLT module. The transmitter wavelength is 1342nm and the output power reaches +4dBm, which will strongly support the standards and industrialization of 50G PON.

At present, the access network has started the era of 10G PON access technology. Compared with the traditional GPON/EPON technology, its bandwidth has been greatly improved. However, with the rise of 5G technology and the development of ultra-clear VR and AI technologies, higher requirements for access network bandwidth will be put forward in the future. 50G PON, as the main technology of choice for the post-10G PON upgrade, has a bandwidth that is more than 5 times higher than that of 10G PON, which can meet the high bandwidth requirements of future access networks. In order to realize the compatibility of 50G PON and 10G PON technology, ITU-T has made a preliminary definition of the physical layer indicators of 50G PON. The downstream emission wavelength is selected as 1342nm, and the code type is defined as NRZ, which can realize a smooth upgrade with the current 10G PON.

The current international standard of 50G PON is being improved. Hisense Broadband Multimedia Technology Co., Ltd. is based on independent research and development, and makes full use of Hisense Broadband’s strong device packaging capabilities and software and hardware development capabilities. The industry first achieved a technological breakthrough in 50G PON OLT modules. The emission wavelength complies with international standards, the rise and fall time of the device is better than 8.3ps, and the transmission of the NRZ code type is realized, which provides strong support for the development of 50G PON technology.

Hisense will continue to maintain cooperation with the ITU-T 50G PON standard organization and industry-leading equipment vendors, and actively promote the industrialization of 50G PON technology.
