NVIDIA and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), the world’s largest technology manufacturer, announced the establishment of a strategic partnership to jointly develop the autonomous vehicle platform.

Vehicle As part of the agreement, Foxconn will become a Tier one manufacturer to produce electronic control units (ECUs) based on NVIDIA DRIVE Orin for the global automotive market. The electric vehicle (EV) produced by Foxconn will be equipped with DRIVE Orin ECU and DRIVE Hyperion sensor to achieve highly automated driving capability.
Eric Yeh, senior director of Foxconn Software Development Center, said: “The strategic cooperation with Nvidia will strengthen Foxconn’s ability to provide intelligent driving solutions. We will work together to build energy-saving automatic vehicles. This is a thoughtful partnership, which uses the unique advantages of both sides to jointly pursue the development and opportunities of innovative electric vehicles.”
With more and more transportation leaders choosing DRIVE Orin intelligent vehicles, the cooperation with Foxconn will strengthen NVIDIA’s efforts to meet the growing industry demand. In addition, Foxconn will accelerate its time to market and cost time strategy by manufacturing electric vehicles on DRIVE Hyperion qualified sensor sets.
Rishi Dhall, vice president of NVIDIA’s automotive business, said: “Our cooperation with Foxconn will provide a world-class supplier of NVIDIA’s DRIVE Orin platform for OEMs to develop intelligent driving solutions. Foxconn has decided to use DRIVE Hyperion sensor kits in its electric vehicles, which will help accelerate its production without affecting safety, reliability or quality.”
The automotive NVIDIA DRIVE Orin system on chip can achieve 254 trillion operations per second, which is designed to process a large number of applications and deep neural networks running simultaneously in autonomous vehicle. NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion is a modular development platform and reference architecture for designing autonomous vehicle. Together, they act as the brain and central nervous system of the car, processing a large amount of sensor data in real time, so that autonomous vehicle can safely perceive, plan and act.
