Ericsson and the Thailand Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) recently announced plans to develop a Thai version of Silicon Valley.
Ericsson detailed in a statement the project called Thailand’s Digital Valley, which will be located 50 miles east of Bangkok, with the goal of “becoming a new digital center in Southeast Asia” and digital transformation in the region. The project is expected to create approximately 20000 new jobs and generate foreign investment worth 5 billion baht (144 million US dollars) annually.
Ericsson and DEAP recently signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly carry out projects to promote Thailand’s 5G based Digital transformation. The two companies will be committed to establishing an innovation laboratory in Thailand’s Digital Valley as a 5G test bench and service center for testing new wireless technologies, spectrum sharing, and applications.
“As a 5G leader who has worked in Thailand for 117 years, we are committed to using our leading and trusted solutions and the global partner ecosystem to promote the Digital transformation of the country. We look forward to further cooperation with DEAP, Thai operators, enterprises and start-ups to release the potential of 5G by jointly creating 5G use cases,” said Dr. Jessada Sivaraks, head of Ericsson Thai government and industry relations.
