With the full completion of the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) jointly built by China Unicom, China Unicom has completed the world’s first live network verification of single wave 1.2Tbit/s commercial international transmission in the ADC Backhaul transmission section in Hong Kong. The C-band transmission capacity has exceeded 33Tbit/s, and the spectrum efficiency has increased by 71.8% compared to 200Gbit/s transmission technology. This marks a significant breakthrough for China Unicom in the innovation of cutting-edge optical communication technology and the construction of next-generation communication infrastructure. In addition, after landing in Hong Kong, ADC has achieved connectivity with China Unicom’s Jiangjun’ao Smart Cloud Data Center and China Unicom Cloud International Station, bringing better experience to global Internet and financial, smart computing, government and enterprise users, and achieving new networks, new technologies, and new services. The construction of ADC submarine cable is of great milestone significance in the history of China Unicom’s submarine cable construction.
With the production of submarine cables, China Unicom’s global submarine cable layout has been further expanded and optimized. In terms of regional connectivity, ADC has a total length of about 9800 kilometers, making it the first high-performance submarine cable in recent years to connect China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Shantou, Guangdong) with countries and regions such as Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam in the Asia Pacific region. In terms of technological innovation, ADC submarine cable adopts the industry’s advanced multi fiber open cable mode for construction, which can independently and flexibly equip the most advanced shore end transmission equipment. The designed capacity of 8 pairs of optical fibers exceeds 160Tbit/s, which can effectively improve the communication capacity and channel diversification level between major information hubs in the region; In terms of project construction, through the community model of joint consultation, joint construction and sharing, ADC submarine cables not only effectively reduce investment risks, but also enhance the feasibility and success rate of project implementation. ADC submarine cables have become a model of multilateral collaboration and cooperation among countries along the “the Belt and Road” to jointly build international submarine cables, and China Unicom has become an international operator with the largest number of submarine cable routes in major directions in the Asia Pacific region, such as Hong Kong Japan Singapore, the best transmission delay in key directions, and the best international network resilience.
China Unicom, as the main operator of the global backbone three-dimensional Internet network and the main constructor of the “the Belt and Road” new digital infrastructure, has also been recognized and affirmed by international standards organizations for its fruitful achievements in the field of submarine cable construction and operation. Recently, China Unicom was invited to join the newly established submarine cable resilience consulting agency of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as the first member. In the future, China Unicom will also rely on this new international platform to share its experience and contribute its strength, actively promote the resilience improvement of international submarine cable communication networks, fully guarantee the security and reliability of global cyberspace, and wholeheartedly safeguard the stable operation of customer business services.
