On May 6th, the News and Publicity Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that China Unicom Zhejiang Branch has opened Zhejiang Province’s first ultra long coverage 5G base station facing the East China Sea at Shipu Dongmen Island in Xiangshan County, Ningbo, covering a distance of up to 50 kilometers. On April 26th, network technology experts from Zhejiang Unicom and ZTE Communications jointly conducted the first ocean 5G network coverage technology test in the 12 nautical miles of the East China Sea.
It is reported that the 5G base station adopts a Lombo lens antenna with advantages in networking, such as light weight, high gain, and good beam directionality, as well as a high-power multi-channel RRU device that can enhance the coverage capacity of the base station, achieving ultra long coverage up to 50 kilometers in a 30 ° sector.
During the testing process of ocean 5G network coverage technology, network technology experts from Zhejiang Unicom and ZTE went deep into the 12 nautical miles of the East China Sea to conduct a series of sea surface ultra far coverage verification tests, including uplink and downlink FTP, and sea surface fixed-point services. The test results met expectations.
As of February 2023, China Unicom has 1.17 million 5G base stations, accounting for about 30% of the world’s total. According to operational data in March 2023, China Unicom had 223.8 million 5G package users as of March 2023. The number of connected users is 899.8 million, and the number of IoT users is approximately 415.7 million.
