On June 6, 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued 5G licenses to China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and China Radio and Television, marking China’s official entry into the first year of 5G.
From the data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the number of 5G mobile phone terminal connections in my country currently reaches 335 million, and there are nearly 850,000 5G base stations, forming the world’s largest 5G independent networking network.
In response to some people’s belief that “5G base stations have a higher density and higher radiation value”, China Telecom has recently conducted relevant science popularization through social platforms.
The official said that the increase in 5G network speed is not achieved by increasing the transmission power of the base station, but by expanding the bandwidth, improving the anti-interference ability and receiving sensitivity.
China Telecom emphasizes that, according to national standards, the radiation value of China’s base stations must meet “less than 40 microwatts/cm”. This standard radiation is extremely low, even inferior to the radiation generated by household appliances such as hair dryers and induction cookers. However, the power of 5G base stations is smaller, and the radiation value generated is very small.
It is worth mentioning that Wu Hequan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said at the China Unicom’s 5G Dialogue Forum recently that the distance to the base station may not necessarily be large. The electromagnetic waves of the base station are mainly emitted in the horizontal direction, and the weakening is obvious in the vertical direction. Right below the base station, the power density is often the smallest.
Will 5G base stations have more radiation than 4G base stations? Wu Hequan also gave a negative: “5G base stations have a smaller radius and lower power than 4G.”
It is reported that the denser the coverage of the base station, the better the mobile phone signal reception, and the less electromagnetic radiation users will receive.
