Haivision, a North American video network company, claims that mobile technology is popular in the broadcasting industry, and regular research shows a strong interest in 5G and compatible private networks.
A survey of 800 broadcast executives from October to December 2023 shows that mobile technology ranks second only to the Internet in terms of network transmission and is the second most popular means of transmission.
The company said that 60% of broadcasters are already using 3G, 4G or 5G for “real-time video transmission”, compared with 80% using Internet connections.
Haivision also found a high interest in 5G, with 74% of respondents reporting that they have used or plan to use the technology for broadcast transmission, which is used to deliver live streaming to studios.
It also added that 46% of people “expect” to use private 5G for this purpose.
Markus Schioler, Vice President of Marketing, stated that Haivision’s 2024 Broadcasting Transformation Report shows that private 5G and artificial intelligence are emerging trends.
The company found that 60% of people expect artificial intelligence to have the greatest impact on the broadcasting industry in the next five years, and 49% plan or have already used it in their workflows.
A large portion (84%) also “used at least some cloud based technologies,” although Haivision pointed out that “only 22%” used it in “over half of the current workflow.”.
Schioler describes the use of cloud and mobile networks as a constantly evolving trend, as well as efficient video coding (HEVC), which has a usage rate of 67% in broadcast transmission workflows.
