Bluebird Network announced that the information provided by MIP will show that Bluebird will acquire Uniti’s Midwestern fiber business and receive a long-term lease for Uniti’s 2,500-mile Midwest fiber network. The two fiber networks will be combined and operated as a company under the Bluebird name. The new fiber optic network is located in Illinois, covering Rockford, Peoria, Bloomington, Normal and Quad Cities. Fiber network expansion is also planned. The Bluebird Network now operates a network of more than 8,000 fiber-optic routes with more than 127 PoPs.

MIP CEO Karl Kuchel said: “We are pleased to expand MIP’s communications infrastructure portfolio through the acquisition of Bluebird. As bandwidth requirements continue to grow, fiber optics has become an important pillar of high-performance connectivity networks. We look forward to being experienced with Bluebird. The management team works to develop the company’s network and services in the next few years.”

Bluebird Network President and CEO Michael Morey said: “Bluebird Network is proud to be one of the top telecom providers in the country. Through this transaction, Bluebird is still able to expand its products in new cities and communities and continue to provide the highest level of service to business, operators and wireless customers.”
