On May 12, at the signing ceremony of Xi’an Investment Environment Promotion and Key Projects, Baidu announced the re-construction of a large-scale cloud computing center, namely Baidu Cloud Computing (Xi’an) Center Project will be located in Xi’an Aerospace Base.

It is understood that the Baidu Cloud Computing (Xi’an) Center will be built into a green energy-saving, technology-leading ultra-large-scale cloud computing center. The project park covers an area of about 127 mu. It plans to build a computer room building, a comprehensive office building and an auxiliary building. The building area is about 90,000 square meters, and the installed capacity of the server exceeds 100,000 units. This will be Baidu’s first large-scale self-built data center with a scale of more than 100,000 units in the western region.

According to a report by Global Technology, Baidu’s cloud computing center in Yangquan, Shanxi Province, was once known as the “Baidu AI Technology Hard Core” rear–the largest and most technologically advanced data center in Asia.

Baidu said that the data center is the core infrastructure of cloud computing services, and is the key to the scale and intensive development of cloud computing. The interaction between cloud and end customers is realized through the data center and the operational services provided by it.  Baidu Cloud Computing (Xi’an) Center Project will build a core cluster in western China, which will serve as an important node in Baidu’s national transmission backbone network and radiate the entire western region. Baidu Cloud Computing (Xi’an) Center’s location signing signifies that Baidu Smart Cloud is more complete in the nation’s regional infrastructure network, and the service support for Midwest users will be more perfect, which will become an important step in the development of Baidu’s intelligent cloud.

Industry insiders have analyzed that the current sample size of image analysis has reached tens of billions, the speech analysis has reached 100,000 hours, and the training data sample size is getting larger and larger, which requires higher computing power. At the same time, the acceleration of industrial intelligence has caused more and more enterprises to face intelligent upgrades.  However, enterprise scenarios are different and require customized solutions. At the same time, the algorithm model is very complex, which puts higher demands on the capabilities of cloud computing vendors.

Baidu said that it relies on multiple ultra-large data centers, hundreds of thousands of servers, ultra-large-scale GPU clusters, and a powerful computing platform through high-speed Internet interconnection. Baidu Cloud Computing (Xi’an) Center will be connected with Baidu data centers.  It constitutes a joint force and provides a powerful computing platform for Baidu Brain. While supporting Baidu’s business, it empowers the industry and provides reliable public cloud services for the society.
