Nokia announced that it will provide equipment support for the Medusa submarine cable system under AFR-IX Telecom. This groundbreaking submarine cable project will connect the Atlantic coast, the Mediterranean, and the Red Sea, creating a new high-capacity digital corridor spanning Europe and North Africa, promoting regional connectivity, technological innovation, and economic growth.

The Medusa submarine cable is an important measure to bridge the digital divide between Europe and North Africa, closely connecting countries such as Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, and Egypt through high-capacity fiber optic links. The system adopts an open access design to provide advanced connectivity services to telecommunications operators in the region, supporting 5G deployment, cloud infrastructure expansion, and the continuous growth demand for bandwidth from artificial intelligence and future technologies. With the help of the Nokia 1830 GX series platform and ICE7 coherent optical transmission technology, Medusa can achieve transmission capabilities of tens of terabits per second per pair of fibers, enabling high-capacity, low latency network connections with higher energy efficiency and lower single bit costs.
