Southern Cross Cables Limited (“Southern Cross”) has announced the provision of ODUflex solutions across its entire ecosystem, providing a larger capacity choice for its Layer 1 Ethernet and OTN product sets.

As part of our Giganet (OTN) and Gigapac (MPLS) product sets, we have been providing Layer 1 and Layer 2 solutions for several years. Last year, we introduced 400GbE full rate to these product groups and are pleased to further enhance our OTN based products by using Ciena ODUflex technology to support multi rate Layer 1 solutions.”
Southern Cross is one of the first undersea fiber optic cable providers to introduce the OTN Ethernet (EoOTN) solution. Giganet products focus on establishing full speed, low latency, and elastic connections between ecosystems of 15 fiber optic stations and data center access points in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. Enhancing products to leverage ODUflex is an important milestone in our commitment to continue providing and enhancing product flexibility for our customers.
ODUflex will enable customers to leverage existing 10GbE and 100GbE (as well as equivalent OTU) interfaces, but with access to partial load speeds while maintaining transparency in Layer 1 connectivity services, thereby better expanding connectivity to meet their needs. Plan to achieve 400GbE ODUflex service by 2025.
