The new infrastructure was included in the government work report this year, boosting the  self-assurance in the industry. New infrastructure is the cornerstone of the development of the digital society, among which Xiaomi has set foot in 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud services, etc.

A few days ago, Lei Jun, representative of the National People’s Congress and Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, said in an interview that in the face of the impact of the epidemic, strengthening new infrastructure is a good measure to increase investment and boost the economy, and by strengthening new infrastructure, it can further improve China’s high-tech competitiveness.

Lei Jun believes that in addition to the faster deployment of 5G networks, it is necessary to devote enough money to support 5G scenarios. “If there are not enough application scenarios to pull at this stage, I think the popularization speed of 5G may not be fast enough.” Lei Jun said that the innovation of 5G application scenarios should be placed in a more important position.

The epidemic has impacted economic and social development, and has also adversely affected Xiaomi’s 5G strategy. “Our warehouse is empty, and 5G mobile phones can’t come up,” Lei Jun said. This is the biggest trouble caused by the epidemic to Xiaomi. Therefore, when it resumed work and production, Xiaomi made a huge determination to subsidize the factory 250 million yuan. “Affected by the epidemic, the promotion of 5G has indeed slowed down, but our strategy has not changed, and we will continue to push 5G mobile phones.” Lei Jun is confident in pushing 5G mobile phones forward.

At the beginning of 2019, Xiaomi determined the dual-engine drive of “mobile phone + AIoT” and continued to promote this strategy. Lei Jun believed that three aspects should be finished well.  The first is to lay a solid foundation, practice internal skills, and break through core technologies.  Second, we must hold onto the Chinese market. Third, we should fully push to globalize. In particular, speaking of continuing to increase support for the Chinese market, Lei Jun said, “We must vigorously expand our market share in China. This is why we appointed Lu Weibing as President of China at the end of last year, and then fully promoted the Chinese business, including  pushing 5G mobile phones to meet the needs of the Chinese market.”

In the upcoming 5G+AIoT era of intelligent interconnection of all things, Xiaomi also hopes to contribute more to the construction of my country’s disaster warning system and other public service systems.

As a representative of the National People’s Congress, one of Lei Jun’s suggestions this year is to accelerate the use of smart phones, TVs and other smart terminals to build a public service system such as disaster warning in my country. “In the past, the epidemic notifications were all through the TV station. Today, everyone can be reached directly through mobile phones and smart TVs.” He believes that relying on the 5G era, smart phones, TVs and other terminals, the artificial intelligence and IoT technology, to build a reliable national disaster early warning system has extremely extensive application prospects.

In addition to 5G, Xiaomi is also doing pre-research on 6G. Lei Jun pays great attention to the development process of satellite Internet and how to collaborate with smart phones. “It’s not enough to have base stations and satellites. You have to have terminal support, so we will have enough pre-research in this area, but we will not directly get involved in commercial aerospace.” Lei Jun said.

This year’s two sessions, Lei Jun’s Recommendations on Improving Innovation Ability and Vigorously Developing the Commercial Aerospace Industry attracted the appreciation of experts in the aerospace field. Lei Jun suggested that satellite Internet should be included in my country’s “14th Five-Year Plan” development plan as a strategic emerging industry for key development, and it is clear that satellite Internet-related commercial aerospace companies are an important part of the national aerospace industry.
