Customers of Communication Service Provider (CSP) Three Sweden will be able to enjoy 5G Independent Networking (5G SA) connectivity services – the company has officially launched commercial networks through a partnership with Ericsson’s hardware, software products, and solutions.

Individual and corporate users of Three Sweden in urban areas will benefit from expanded coverage, increased capacity, low latency, improved network speed, and a better connected user experience.

In addition to enhancing mobile broadband services, the new 5G SA network will also support Three Sweden’s enterprise market expansion strategy by providing differentiated connections based on network slicing. This approach can achieve customized service quality and ensure the capabilities required for business critical operations.

5G SA Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband – a high-speed, high-capacity, and secure broadband solution achieved through mobile connections that can serve as an alternative to laying fiber optic cables to homes and businesses – will also become a key business area for Three Sweden.

Three Sweden’s 5G SA network includes Ericsson’s cloud native 5G core network and radio access network (RAN) solution, providing the company with advanced next-generation mobile connectivity capabilities.

After fully testing 5G SA technology, Three Sweden and Ericsson immediately advanced network deployment. The commercial network will be officially launched in December 2025.

Rajib Eklund, Chief Information and Technology Officer for Scandinavia at Three, stated, “The launch of our 5G standalone network is a crucial step in delivering enhanced services to our customers, and I am proud that Three has become the first Swedish company to offer this service. Ericsson’s 5G technology enables us to significantly improve network efficiency and create tailored connectivity solutions to meet the diverse needs of Swedish businesses and people. ”

Niclas Backlund, Head of Ericsson Sweden and the Baltic region, said: “We are honored to collaborate with Three Sweden to turn their 5G standalone networking strategy and vision into reality. This deployment utilizes end-to-end Ericsson technology, which will assist Three Sweden in driving productivity, sustainability, and innovation across various industries. ”

5G SA introduces a programmable, software driven, cloud native architecture that enables differentiated connectivity by defining performance characteristics such as latency, reliability, and capacity. The capabilities of network slicing enable Tre to customize networks for specific applications and enterprise needs, supporting advanced use cases across industries, the Internet of Things (IoT), and next-generation digital services.

5G SA is designed specifically for efficiency and scalability, with significantly improved energy efficiency per gigabyte compared to previous generations of technology, helping to reduce environmental impact while meeting the growing demand for data.
