During the Open Source Summit North America, the Joint Development Foundation under the Linux Foundation announced today the establishment of the OpenSTX Foundation. This community driven new initiative aims to support the development and promotion of synchronous transmission (STX) wireless network technology, making it an open industry standard. By coordinating efforts within the neutral foundation framework, the OpenSTX community aims to promote the global application of STX technology and provide support for the next generation of industrial IoT and cyber physical systems.
With the growing demand for scalable, secure, and real-time wireless connectivity, enterprises require protocols specifically designed for critical environments such as smart factories, smart cities, and logistics networks. STX technology breaks through the limitations of traditional wireless systems and can achieve strict synchronous transmission with almost zero collision, zero interference, and ultra-low latency, making it particularly suitable for applications with strict requirements for timing, reliability, and energy efficiency.
The OpenSTX Foundation will collaborate with industry leaders, research institutions, and stakeholders to jointly develop STX open specifications for enterprises. The foundation has received funding from the Technology Innovation Research Institute Fly4Future、 Graz University of Technology, Imperial College London SKF CNEA、 Supported by renowned institutions and enterprises such as Trento University, Darmstadt University of Technology, and RedNodeLabs, we are committed to establishing a universal protocol foundation that ensures cross industry determinism, high energy efficiency, and ultra-high reliability communication.

The potential application scenarios of OpenSTX include: achieving ultra reliable real-time wireless control of robots and equipment in the field of industrial control and automation; Smart city infrastructure can provide stable large-scale coordinated communication for traffic signals, power grids, and environmental sensor networks; Disaster emergency response can quickly establish a temporary communication network that does not rely on existing infrastructure; Asset tracking and logistics management can support a large number of trackers to simultaneously report location status.
