Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) and Ultra Accelerator Link ™ （UALink ™）, the alliance announced today the establishment of a partnership to jointly enhance the vertical scalability and interconnection performance of AI clusters and high-performance computing (HPC). The UALink Alliance is developing an open standard for accelerated computing interconnection for AI and HPC workloads, while the OCP community is committed to designing sustainable large-scale data center infrastructure with a focus on open AI systems. The cooperation between the two parties aims to integrate UALink’s AI interconnect technology into the AI cluster provided by the OCP community, meeting the high bandwidth, low latency, and low-power connection requirements for high-performance AI training and inference.
George Tchaparian, CEO of the OCP Foundation, stated that the rapid adoption of AI, from autonomous driving to enterprise analytics, has placed unprecedented demands on scalable and high-performance AI infrastructure. By collaborating with the UALink Alliance, we will jointly develop system specifications to address the key challenges of advanced AI models in terms of interconnect bandwidth and scalability. The focus of cooperation includes coordinating OCP community led infrastructure development and UALink interconnection innovation to ensure seamless integration and unified goals. Both parties will leverage their respective expertise to enhance AI interconnection performance and collaborate in OCP’s open AI system strategic plan and short-range optical interconnection technology working group.
