Windstream Wholesale, a world-renowned provider of advanced network solutions, recently announced that it has successfully completed the world’s first 800 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) transatlantic business certification in partnership with Colt Technology Services and Nokia. This breakthrough achievement is attributed to VIAVI Solutions’ cutting-edge testing solutions and professional technical support, ensuring fast and seamless verification deployment.
This 800G transoceanic service connects Chicago and London, spanning over 8500 kilometers and covering commercial submarine and terrestrial fiber optic cable lines. This experiment utilized Nokia’s advanced Photon Service Interconnection Modular (PSI-M) platform. The core of verifying this achievement is VIAVI’s comprehensive testing solution, which includes pre deployment evaluation of optical modules and network transmission equipment, as well as in service bidirectional traffic generation at challenging 800G speeds.
VIAVI conducted several days of pre deployment immersion testing on Nokia 800G optical modules and network devices using the VIAVI ONT-800 FLEX XPM test kit, which played a crucial role in cross ocean validation. This rigorous testing ensures seamless integration of hardware, software, and infrastructure components, effectively addressing technical issues at both ends of the optical link. In addition, VIAVI ONT-800 FLEX XPM generated an 800G data stream to test end-to-end 800G services from Chicago to London, verifying long-term service stability and error free transmission. The meticulous and rigorous VIAVI solution has increased the likelihood of successful hardware and software integration, greatly reducing the need for post deployment troubleshooting and accelerating the validation of 800G service expansion.
The collaboration between VIAVI and Windstream Wholesale not only facilitated the success of the experiment, but also ensured that Windstream Wholesale can provide unprecedented bandwidth capabilities, which are crucial for AI driven applications and high-performance network solutions. This experiment marks an important step forward in global connectivity, providing Windstream’s customers with higher performance and service reliability.
Windstream Wholesale President Joe Scattareggia said: “We are pleased to have achieved this breakthrough milestone in the 800G transatlantic business certification, which highlights Windstream Wholesale’s commitment to expanding the boundaries of optical network technology. Our collaboration with VIAVI Solutions has played an important role in this success, reflecting our core strategy of cultivating strong partnerships. VIAVI’s expertise and innovative testing solutions ensure seamless deployment, enabling us to provide unprecedented bandwidth capabilities. This experiment not only enhances our service products, but also strengthens our position as an industry leader.”
Tom Fawcett, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Laboratory and Production at VIAVI, stated: “We are honored to be part of the world’s first 800G optical and IP business certification, partnering with Windstream to drive cross land and cross Atlantic network services. This technological achievement highlights VIAVI’s commitment to customers by providing cutting-edge testing solutions and expert support to help them achieve their goals.”
VIAVI has once again demonstrated its commitment to strong partnerships and excellent customer support in this project. The component pre deployment, software and system testing, on-site setup, and remote application engineering expertise of VIAVI staff have played a crucial role in overcoming deployment challenges.
Looking ahead, this successful experiment highlights Windstream Wholesale’s efforts in technological innovation and leadership in the telecommunications industry. The collaboration between Windstream Wholesale and VIAVI, Colt, and Nokia not only showcases the power of collaboration, but also sets a new benchmark for optical networking capabilities.
