Coherent Gaoyi (New York Stock Exchange: COHR) and Kinetic, a subsidiary of Windstream, recently announced that the two companies will use the first 100G QSFP28 0 dBm Digital Coherent Optical Module (DCO) to further expand their partnership from support for 400G services to 100G services at the network edge. Coherent is one of the leaders in the field of optical communication transceivers, while Kinetic, a subsidiary of Windstream, is one of the leading suppliers of enterprise and home fiber optic connectivity, collaboration, and security services, covering 18 states in the United States.
Enterprises and cloud networks have stimulated the rapid growth of data traffic, including the exponential explosion of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, which has driven the demand for next-generation transmission technologies, as service providers need to be able to efficiently expand the capacity of transmission networks. With Coherent’s new high-power 100G transceiver, Kinetic will be able to directly connect routers to access networks, metropolitan areas, and regional networks, without the need for additional intermediate interfaces, saving an entire layer of optical transmission equipment.

Kinetic has validated the new 100G transceiver technology through an on-site network experiment, which includes 14 cascaded ROADM nodes with a transmission distance of 820km. The on-site test was conducted through a production link, with a channel utilization rate of 75% and mixed transmission of multiple generations of signals spanning 10G, 100G, and 400G. The 100G transceiver achieves end-to-end fault free operation of the entire network, surpassing the specified optical performance requirements and verifying compliance with IEEE electrical interface standards.
Coherent will participate in the 2023 European Optical Communication Exhibition (ECOC) held in Glasgow, Scotland from October 2nd to 4th, with booth number 406. At that time, the new 100G QSFP28 0 dBm transceiver will be showcased, and Coherent will also showcase a large number of its latest products in differentiated solutions for telecommunications and data communication fiber optic networks at the exhibition.
