Nokia became the first telecommunications company to announce the production of optical broadband network electronics and Optical module in the United States for the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program.
Fiber optic networks use fine glass to transmit data and have become the backbone of today’s digital economy, connecting everything to fast and reliable gigabit data services. 70% of fiber optic broadband lines in North America are provided by Nokia. Now, Nokia will collaborate with Sanmina Corporation to produce several fiber optic broadband products at Sanmina’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, bringing up to 200 new jobs to the state.
By producing fiber optic technology in the United States, Nokia will be able to provide products and services for key projects such as BEAD that focus on bridging the digital divide, helping to further promote the country’s economic growth and create employment opportunities. Access to technology built in the United States is an important requirement for states and infrastructure participants who seek to participate in the “Broadband Development Plan” and allocate $42.45 billion in available funds to underserved and underserved communities.
