At the request of the United States, Japan will consider restricting the export of advanced semiconductor technology, including chip manufacturing machinery, to China.
According to reports, Nishimura Nishimura, Minister of Economy and Trade of Japan, said that we are strictly implementing export control based on international cooperation. Japan will consider the restrictive measures taken by other countries and make appropriate responses.

A few days ago, it was reported that during the negotiations concluded on Friday, the United States had reached an agreement with the Netherlands and Japan to restrict the export of some advanced chip manufacturing equipment to China. The agreement will extend some export controls passed by the United States in October to the companies of the two allies, including ASML, Nikon and Tokyo Electric Ltd.
Regarding the trilateral talks in Washington, Nishimura said that he did not want to comment on the diplomatic negotiations.
The report pointed out that Japan was already studying the measures that could be taken. Considering their impact on domestic companies, Japan will continue to discuss with the United States and the Netherlands to eliminate specific restrictions.
It is reported that in Japan, the trade of civilian goods that can be used for military purposes is restricted by the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law. The export of certain goods or technologies requires the authorization of the Minister of Economy and Industry, and the items can be added to the list of sensitive goods by modifying department regulations. If necessary, the Japanese government will consider amending the foreign exchange law, but this legislative process will take at least a few months.
