With regard to the news that Apple is going to phase out Qualcomm 5G chips, the media contacted Qualcomm. The spokesman of the latter reiterated the statement made at the Q4 quarterly financial report meeting, saying that the revenue from Apple products is expected to account for the majority of 5G baseband chips when the new iPhone product is released in 2023, which is higher than the previous assumption of 20%.
Qualcomm said that in addition, their plan has not changed, assuming that the contribution of Apple’s product revenue in fiscal year 2025 is very small.
From Qualcomm’s statement, the iPhone 15 in 2023 will still rely on Qualcomm’s 5G baseband, but it’s hard to say later. There will be no revenue in fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025 in the calendar year), which means that Apple will switch to its own 5G chip.
