It is reported that Arm held Arm Tech Symposia, and Zeng Zhiguang, president of Arm Taiwan, China, pointed out that due to inflation, interest rate rise and other environmental factors, the semiconductor market situation looks more conservative than before, and next year’s operation will be a big challenge, but customers will continue to invest in new issues, and Arm will closely observe the changes in the overall environment.
With regard to the expansion of chip control in Chinese Mainland by the United States, Zeng Zhiguang believed that under geopolitical risks, customers would indeed consider which processor architecture to use, but it was only one of the key points to consider, not the only one. Other factors, such as the overall architecture ecosystem and the integrity of the product portfolio, were also factors that enterprises would consider when choosing an architecture.
Previously, it was reported that the documents in the legal dispute between Arm and Qualcomm showed that the cooperation mode between Arm and chip manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) may be fundamentally changing, that is, OEM partners must obtain licenses directly from Arm. Qualcomm said that Arm told terminal equipment manufacturers that it is expected that after 2024, it will not directly authorize architecture IP to chipmakers, which will directly restrict chipmakers from developing their own architectures.
Zeng Zhiguang pointed out in the meeting that the company’s SOAFEE architecture for the automotive supply chain has more than 50 enterprise members, a four-times increase compared with the 10 or so start-ups, including software manufacturers, IC design manufacturers, car manufacturers, system integration suppliers, etc., symbolizing the continuous expansion of the overall ecosystem.
Arm added that in the future, software will play an important role, but it will be accompanied by completely different complexities. Especially in the future, fully self-driving vehicles are expected to require at least 500 million lines of code. By 2030, the total number of vehicle software developers in the world will exceed 250000, which means that the technology of traditional design can no longer be expanded and meets the increasing demand of vehicles for software.
