According to foreign media Light Reading, the Next G Alliance of ATIS in the United States and the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association announced today that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange information on their work plans in areas of mutual interest in 6G communication systems and networks. The MoU also includes cooperation on joint events, including workshops, workshops, webinars and trials on 6G-related topics.

Launched by the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), the Next G Alliance aims to advance North American wireless technology leadership over the next decade through a private sector-led effort, with an initial focus on 6G. The efforts of its working groups on applications, green G, national 6G roadmap, social and economic needs, spectrum and technology will lay the foundation for North America’s leadership in 6G and beyond.

6G-IA is the voice of European industry and research on next-generation networks and services. It is an independent international not-for-profit association with a board of directors elected by its members. 6G-IA activities are broad in scope and include B5G and 6G research, pre-standardization activities, policy and regulatory issues, 5G and 6G frequency concepts, international collaboration, and vertical engagement in shaping B5G and 6G industrial use cases.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations was signed by Susan Miller, President and CEO of ATIS, and Dr. Colin Willcock, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 6G-IA.

The collaboration between the Next G Alliance and 6G-IA will facilitate the development of the global 6G mobile wireless ecosystem.”

Colin Willcock, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 6G-IA, said: “6G-IA promotes the development of 6G in Europe through a partnership with the European Commission for smart networks and services. This major research plan will invest at least EUR 1.8 billion on 6G research in the period 2021-2027. One of the main goals of the association is to secure a single global 6G standard. To achieve this, it is vital that we collaborate with key organizations around the world. With this in mind, we believe that The MoU with the Next G Alliance is a critical next step in this journey.”
