Japan first spent 50 billion yen on the development of 6G, and then combined with the United States to jointly use 4.5 billion US dollars to develop 6G, and finally strengthened cooperation with India in information and communication technology. Why did Japan, which has always been low-key, change its previous style and begin to vigorously develop 6G technology? Does Japan have the strength to challenge China and the United States?

Why does Japan develop 6G?

First of all, we have to make it clear that Japan is considered a technological power, at least it is also a technological power. The most typical example is Japanese cars. Toyota, Honda, etc. are all Japanese brands. If it weren’t for being played by the United States in the last century, Japan’s technological strength would be much stronger than it is now.

At the end of the 1980s, Japan was filled with an atmosphere of intoxication, and all major service areas were overcrowded. The Japanese are accustomed to the extravagant life of drinking good wine, eating big meals, giving gold watches when they meet each other, and taking a taxi for a hundred meters. Some Japanese even chanted: “Buy the entire United States, so that Americans have nowhere to go.” Who would have thought that this last “prosperity” was the insurmountable ceiling of Japan later, and it was just a passing moment.

In 1985, the United States asked Japan to sign the “Plaza Agreement”, which led to a substantial increase in the yen exchange rate and the collapse of Japanese manufacturing. Everyone began to take money to speculate in stocks and real estate. Tokyo’s land price is more expensive than the entire United States. Unfortunately, after the bubble, the United States took this opportunity to make a huge fortune, and the Japanese economy was hit hard, causing the Japanese economy to experience “lost thirty years.” And Japanese technology also suffered heavy losses during this period.

But the lean camel is bigger than the horse. Japan still has a certain degree of strength. It dares to cross 5G and directly develop 6G, which shows that at least Japan has the confidence and strength.

As the first year of 5G’s commercial use in 2019, many countries are vigorously developing 5G. Compared with 4G, 5G’s biggest features are high speed, low latency, and large capacity. Therefore, it takes a few minutes to download a Blu-ray movie with 4G, while 5G only requires a few seconds.

However, 5G is still in the popularization stage, but Japan suddenly exerted its strength and began to increase research on 6G.

In fact, Japan already had technological advantages in the 3G era. But at that time, the United States encountered a subprime mortgage crisis. Japan voluntarily gave way. All the first lipstick dividends were given to the United States. The United States smoothly got out of economic difficulties, but Japan had no choice but to drink its own soup.

Because the mobile communication system has patent barriers, the winner takes all, and the loser is lonely. This slows the whole process, and Japan’s 4G has not benefited either.

In the 5G era, Japan has also been doing it with great fanfare. It is a pity that there is not enough technical reserves, and operators lack sufficient capital, and the interference of American companies has not developed 5G technology in Japan.

Japan felt that this was not possible. It wanted to use the Tokyo Olympics to stand up and realize 100Gbps high-speed communication in 5G technology, and advertise for its own communications industry. However, the sudden epidemic made Japan feel at a loss. The Tokyo Olympics were postponed and Japan’s efforts were wasted.

Everyone knows that 5G will bring about the rise of the Internet of Things, which can connect, analyze and use a large number of smart devices and big data. The most intuitive thing is that when a person makes a video call, they can seamlessly switch to the TV or car phone without hanging up and replaying.

The most powerful thing is the emergence of unmanned vehicles. Under the 5G delay-free network coverage, unmanned driving can achieve L4 level, and unmanned driving in complex traffic.

Unmanned driving can liberate your hands, so that the majority of driving compatriots can directly enjoy the service of taxis, and the unified dispatch of the system can effectively alleviate traffic congestion and greatly reduce traffic accidents caused by “anger on the road”.

It can be seen that 5G can bring huge profits. As an upgraded version of 6G, it is bound to be another wave of huge dividends. Moreover, Japan has repeatedly failed in the 5G field, so the direct development of 6G is also an option, because Japan has a very large technological advantage in automobile manufacturing, intelligent robots, and high-added manufacturing.

In addition, the computing power of intelligent products will become higher and higher, and the requirements for network speed will be higher, and the 6G layout will be given priority. Japan may be able to reverse the decline.
